Volunteer Program

KESHA has a very nice volunteer program.  The objective is to provide services that can improve the socio-economic and health status of the target communities. These are women, children, students, patients, orphans and vulnerable children and youth.

To make the program successfully, the organization provides placement and hosting (accommodation) to volunteers. In Tana River District the organization has a hostel for volunteers and project staff.

For international volunteers the NGO makes all the necessary arrangements e.g. work permit, transport from the air port, tour guiding etc.

The program also facilitates a weekend trip to Lamu, Malindi or Masai Mara game reserve for the volunteers to see the rich culture and wild animals in Kenya.

The average budget per day per volunteer is between Ksh. 500 to Ksh 1000. This includes full accommodation, transport and a visit to one of the tourist attraction sites mentioned above.

The projects include:
i. Health
   KESHA health centre in Kawangware Slums Nairobi, public hospitals in Tana River District.

Work includes: HIV/AIDS counseling and Support, home based care, nursing, home visits, health education Dispensing of drugs, diagnostic, provision of Curative services, maternal child health etc.

ii Education
    There is teaching placement in secondary school, primary school and nursery schools.
    Volunteers can teach English, mathematics, computer applications, basic life skills, etc.

iii Water and sanitation
Malaria/diarrhea prevention activities, community health education, hygiene education, development and construction of water and sanitation facilities e.g. toilets, boreholes, laying of water pipes, research etc.

iv Youth support
Provide guidance and counseling to the youth against drugs and crime, early pregnancies, HIV/AIDS  etc.
Engage the youth in other development activities including sports, workshops, extra-curriculum activities, tree planting etc.
