Preface of our activities
The major issues that the organization is concerned is the health status of the target communities. Health is holistic to achieve it you have to look at factors of social, economy and health.  Poverty is the key issue that derails all of the above factors in this community. For us to improve the health of the community living in Tana River District, we have to look into the opportunities available for them to improve their economic status that will allow them to have purchasing power to afford good nutrition, good housing, medical care, school fees for their children e.t.c.
The district has a great potential for the following four major sub-sectors in agriculture:-

· Industrial crops
· Food crops
· Horticulture
· Livestock and fisheries.

To explore this potential the NGO has supported the poor farmers to form Community Based Organization (CBOs), Youth groups and women groups where we are seeking for funds from organization including  FAO. This is in line with our Kenya vision 2030 for agriculture and is focusing in

(i) increasing productivity through provision of widely-accessible inputs and services to farmers and pastoralists.
(ii) Transforming land use to ensure better utilization of this arid lands through minor irrigation farming.
(iii) Developing this arid area for both crops and livestock through utilization of water from River Tana.

Some of these groups have acquired water pumps and the NGO through partnership with the ministry of agriculture and that of livestock development are giving farmers trainings on modern production technologies. These community based organization are very important vehicle for coordinating developments in the grass roots level.

We work as partners in the community and they participate in mobilizing the community during HIV/AIDS activities, malaria control activities and identifying Orphans and vulnerable children in the community. These project are implemented in partnership with other government including ministry of health.

In Tana River health care is no available to majority of community members. Some have to walk over 20 kms to the nearest dispensary that also is poor equipped and managed by only one Nurse. The NGO carries out mobile clinics that involve curatives, immunization, antenatal clinic, HIV services malaria control and health education.
The NGO has a orphanage home for HIV/AIDS orphans rescued from the community. The center has 25 girls aged between 6 to 16 years. The project has registered over 100 orphans who most of them are supported through their relatives. To sponsor a child click here

Tana River is near Lamu Island-a historical town and Malindi which are tourist destinations along the Indian ocean. The NGO facilitate tour to these destinations over weekends at a subsides rate for  interested volunteers.

Staffs:
The project has 12 qualified and experienced members of staff implanting the projects of the organization.

CHALLENGES
Tana River District is in the remotest areas in Kenya in Cost province a distance of 550kms from Nairobi. The tarmac road connect the District headquarter (Hola) for Tana River District to Nairobi. Roads within the district are not all weather making it impassible during the rain seasons. There are no public transport within the district making the project to depend on car hire. This affects the smooth running of the NGO as the project covers distances of upto 200kms.

The project has no its own transport due to lack of funds for that.
Fund raising. The NGO is carrying out a fundraising targeting to raise Ksh 100,000,000    equivalent to US$ 13157 for the purchase of four wheel drive van and a motorbike in Japan as the NGO is exempted from paying import duty.

You can make a donation too and support this project and restore hope of the poor. To donate click here.
